Buying equipment, hiring people, leasing space, and a ton of other overhead costs kept the big guys in power and put pressure on the little guys. With social media the tables are turned and the little guy has a huge advantage. Relationships are more memorable than marketing in an age where ignoring marketing is the norm.

The big guys are trying to figure it out and throwing money at it, but the little guy has some huge advantages online. Social media for small businesses is more manageable and can have a huge impact. For big businesses managing a customer base in the millions can make it hard to engage on a personal level. Engagement is the “influence machine” and social media is the ultimate tool. For the first time, brands can actually create real relationships with their customers. The traditional marketing methods of manipulating your thoughts and emotions towards their brands through advertising strategies is becoming less effective.
